For my Mother,
A Touch Of Love.
No voice falls upon my ears, only the silent movement of her hands.
What grace and expression I see. Hands that sign in silent wonder, pray with soft and reverent care.
A pride I hold in my mother's silent hands.
With looks and jeering laughter they will never know the beauty of the voices in my mother's silent hands.
Hands that float in meanings bright and clear, the silent beauty of my mother's hands.

My mother is deaf and though we say she is mute, that is not quite the truth. My mother's voice is unlike your mother's voice, but I could hear her call to me in that unique voice of hers and plainly understand each word.
But the voice I loved the best was in her hands. When she sang to me with her hands, they moved with such beauty. When she said I love you with an expression that glowed in her face, and her hands expressed her feeling with such elegance, no room was left to the meaning in her heart.
To those who felt sorry for the little girl who "had" to talk for her mother and father, you missed an opportunity to get to know some wonderful people.
By never taking the time to see the beauty, to know the language, and to know them as people you missed out on so much. I am grateful that my parents were different, for I learned how beautiful different can be.
Thank you Mom and Dad for touching me with your beauty, for the songs you sang to me, for the touch of love you gave to me each day.
I have learned to pass this wonderful touch that my parents gave to me on to my family and I hope also to those who touch my life in one way or the other. May you and yours feel this same touch in your daily lives. May you look at those who are different in a new light and may you always be touched by love.
