Special Words
By, © Dee Mathes The day was cloudy, cold, and a hint of snow was in the air. Everett could hear the children playing in the house; it sounded as if the children were having a party. The children were squealing with delight from time to time. From his corner he couldn’t see, and where the children were Everett had to be. Scampering across the floor Everett made it into the playroom, and there the children were playing and someone was opening gifts. It was his friend Gabby and it’s her 7th birthday party! Off in a corner Everett noticed one little girl sitting all by her self and she looked so very sad. Everett wondered what could make her sad when all the other children seemed so happy. As he inched his way over he could hear Everett’s friend Joey talking to the little girl. Her name was Lisa and she was almost crying. It seemed she didn’t think the gift she had brought was as nice as the others were, and it was making her very sad. Joey asked her why she felt that way? Because Gabby never said thank you, so she must not like the gift at all, Lisa’s eyes filled with tears. Everett noticed that Gabby was heading towards them with a big smile on her face. Out of breath from playing games, she told Lisa she hadn’t meant to forget to say thank you for the wonderful gift, but with so much going on she had just forgotten. She told Lisa her gift had just been what she had wished for and thank you for coming to her party! Lisa slowly started grinning and before long her smile spread across her face. Everett learned a new lesson today and one he would never forget. Two little words were very special and could really make someone’s day. Saying "thank you" was giving a gift to someone, who had done something really nice for you. Being nice to others was something he always wanted to do. Everett hopes that you to will always remember to use your manners and give the gift of "thank you" to someone who has been nice to you. © 01-22-02 All Rights Reserved By: Dee {DBM} |
